Automobiles require an oil change at certain mileage or 1 year whichever comes first in their owners manuals. My 2011 Dyna does not have this requirement in the manual. Does anyone know why?
You should do oil change 5000 miles or one year even the bike sits at the garage, it is simply because of condensation, the less you ride or short trip, the more condensation you get in the crankcase.
Depending on how many miles you put on a year, I would change the oil and filter at least once per year at the minimum.
I change mine every 5,000 which is more than once per year.
I've never seen a Dyna owners manual, but there's usually a maintenance chart with specific times to do maintenance.
I wouldn't trust any oil to run 5,000 miles on these bikes, especially in the summer months. They just run way to HOT! I use Mobil1 and change every 2,000-2,500 miles, depending on personal laziness.
I change every 2500 miles just cause im **** about my bike. Weather it needs it or not is up for debate. But I spend more on other stuff so might as well.
