Default '06 Street Bob suspension bottoming

Just bought an '06 Street Bob, and it already has had pegs and a 2up seat added. When my girlfriend and I are both on it (which will be the case 99% of the time) the suspension bottoms out on any decent size bump. This is pretty rough on my girlfriend's butt. What would be the best way to solve this problem? Whole new shocks? Just change the springs? Any input would be greatly appreciated

It doesn't have the adjustable rears? If not maybe a new set, maybe get them recharged. Not sure if you can with them or not. Sorry, probably not much help.

On an '06 you should have adjustable rears with 3 positions. You may need a special wrench for changing (stop at your dealer; it is done < 1 min). I just had my changed and it makes a reasonable difference. Give it a try; cheaper than changing the springs.

Adjust the shocks to start, if you still have issues then you may need replacements (I have some near new take offs) or an upgrade to heavier duty shocks or perhaps some air shocks which can give a decent ride. Another thing to consider if you plan on 2up a lot is a better seat and backrest- you'll both be much happier and she won't be sliding off the back like she probably is now plus is gives a place to hang a small bag. This is a HD "touring seat" which is just a little smaller than the Sundowner.

On my FXDF even with the stock shocks preloaded on highest setting, i would bottom out with no passenger... since i only ride 1 up most of the time, i bought progressive 412 shocks which are quite resonable, and no more bottoming out. if you plan on doing a lot of 2 up riding, i would consider somthing like the progressive 440's or the 940's... more money but lots more comfort... if you spend the money up front to make it comfortable you will find your self riding it a lot more...

You can stiffen up your shock like mentioned. I bought a set of progressive 440's. I don't ride 2 up anymore, but when I did ride 2 up it did dent up the fender from the rear brake caliper. Might want to get that taken care of ASAP.

As others said adjust preload of rear shocks. If that isn't enough replace them.

Next adjust preload of front forks. Not sure you have an adjustable front. If not you can add small pieces of PVC pipe at the top inside of the forks to adj spring preload. Start with a 1" piece and adj from there. Plenty articles out there to explain this.

Also heavier oil in forks.

What is the combined weight of you and your girlfriend? I've seen combined weights of 450-500 lbs cause problems.

Just bite the bullet and get a pair of 440's. Worth the money every ride. Then you can look at the forks as your next upgrade. That also is worth it...in my humble opinion.
