Default New Guy with a new wide glide on the way

I have been a lurker for a few months now, love the forum! I'm a 21 year old buying my first Harley. I have a 2012 wide glide that just arrived at the dealer today I will be going in next week to drop of my 2010 Honda vt1300 for it. Just wanna say hello and I'm ready to begin modding the bike already haha.

My mods will be stretched over about a month and a half due to $$$. They will include 16 inch apes, v&h shortshots, fuelpak, roland sans air cleaner, extended forwards...

My question is what should be first!? I need that harley sound but the comfort and style of the apes is pushing me to order them first. I am 6' 2" by the way and the stock drags just dont feel right to me, love the 16's on my gf's dad's 05 wide glide.

I also just got a 2012 wide glide 2 weeks ago and love it! I ripped off the front reflectors, took of the passanger pilon and put on new pegs and grips the first day. The first big thing I am changing is the exhuast. I cant stand the sound of the stock exhaust. My next is air cleaner then powervision because from what I've read, you can run the exhaust and air cleaner without absolutely needing a new map. I dont want to run it thgat way too long so ill get the tuner as soon as I can.

Definatly congrats to the both of you. I know your 6'2" and dont really like those drag style bars but that sewing machine sound, for me had to go first.

Default Enjoy

My first mod had to be the pipes. I cant handle the sound of the factory pipes. Sounds like crap. Then that uncomfortable seat went next. Put the apes on over the winter. Now it looks and sounds like a wide glide should. Have fun with the mods

Thanks guys, I'm leaning towards the exhaust. Probably ordering tonight actually, because that stock sound does suck ***. I will order the bars next month probably and do the swap on a day off, or at least I hope it works out that way. I'll post pics when I get her home.

By the way, billbuzz your wg is gorgeous man! The stock seat on it actually feels awesome compared to the 1300 sabre I'm trading in, so it's towards the bottom of the list.

That is a sentence I never thought I would read, much less agree with, LOL
Good luck on trying to space out the mods
Enjoy the bike!

Congrats and weclome aboard! I am impressed that you have a new WG at 21. Pretty good!

I am 6'5" and am waiting for my new WG to come back from the dealership. Doing all sorts of stuff, but if I had to limit my choice I would have changed the bars, sear and added 2" forward control extensions first. Then, I would do full exhaust, ac, fuel manager, cams and a dyno tune once the bike hot the 1000 mile service.

My two cents, but comfort first.
