Angry Need help with new exhaust

So I bought a new bassani road rage exhaust and installed new gaskets. Now I can't tighten the nuts all the way down, I still have a few threads before the nuts sits flush with the studs.

My manual says 60-80 inch lbs for torque and that's what I'm getting. Does Bassani use specific gaskets? I didn't get any, they were crossed off in the instructions inventory.

I'm supposed to go riding with the guys tonight!

How are the flanges seated on the ends of the pipes ... sounds like something is obstructing their seating properly ... unless the end of the pipe that seats in the exhaust port on the gasket is 'thicker' than the stock (holding the flange off) ...?

are you using crush gaskets or screamin eagles??? some after market pipes require the screamin eagle to seat properly..

I'm not sure what brand the gaskets are. I know they're not screamin eagle. The guy at my local v twin shop pulled them out of a bag and said that they'e for a twin cam. They're steal braided with a taper on the inside.

I'm gonna take the exhaust back off and check for carbon behind the gasket. If that doesn't work I'll look into screamin eagle gaskets.

sounds like they're regular ol' crush gasket...

to ask an obvious question - did you pull the old gaskets out of the ports? I know I had a bit of trouble til I did that

Yeah that's the first thing I did, but I just brushed the carbon off with my fingers. I'll use the shop vac this time

I called the dealership and they said that the sceamin eagle gaskets are half as thick as the steal braided tapered ones.

i had to use a flat head screwdriver and long-nosed pliers to pull them out, they don't disintegrate, you'll have to give them a good yank. you'll be pulling out gaskets that look like the one's you're trying to put in

The screaming eagle ones r half the thickness. I used then and was able to tighten the bolts down enough to put two nuts on so they don't back off
