Riding in the rain..........

"I really don't give a **** if that doesn't make me a true "biker" in the eyes of someone else. I had a corvette for few years a while back and i didn't run it in the rain on purpose either. Those cars perform wonderfully when it's dry but when it's raining and wet, they slide all over the place."
+1 on that

I had a C4 and all it took was a little goosing and it broke loose at stops and I hydroplaned a couple of times on a concrete freeway at about only 65mph. It doesn't slide all over the place while just driving, I should have stated that better.
As long as I was deliberate with accelerations and so forth it was ok. I just had to take it more "easy" when it was wet out. Friends with c5's and c6's say that it isn't as much of a big deal now.

I don't mind too much getting caught in the rain as long as it doesn't happen on my way into work. I'd much rather ride in the cold though. I left for work the other morning and the thermometer was reading 22*....... but it was a dry cold. If you ride in the cold when nobody else does, you get a feeling of accomplishment but if you ride in the rain, well you just gotta clean your bike.

ive had my share of riding in the rain. when my tranny went out in my truck i had to ride for over 6 months as a DD before the truck was fixed right...i check the weather reports, before rides and wont ride unless its a 20% chance or less...but if it starts raining in the middle of a ride its not gonna make me turn around...

Me neither... but I drive me my truck
I think 07 Bobber sums it up pretty well. I've ridden in the rain a lot, living in Oregon. But it sucks, and I have all the best rain gear with a comfy full face... but it still sucks. Every year with do the Hells Canyon Rally and it normally rains, but we never cancel the trip. But if I wake up and it's raining, I'm not suiting up in rain gear to ride across town to work, when I can drive.

I have taken several 1000 to 1500 mile trips with a buddy of mine. It always rains, without fail every time we get out on the road. After the 2nd trip i picked up some rain gear, he refused. His comment was "I do not like to ride in the rain so I do not need rain gear". I got him a set anyway. Last trip we were on we were standing under a tree, me in my rain gear and him soaking wet. He refused to pack his rain gear as he does not ride in the rain. But he sure stood in it I just smiled and did not say a word.
On a serious note, i did do 500 miles once in rain in temps between 40 to 45. With the right gear it is something you can do, but the key is the right gear...
