Dyna Carb experts I have a little problem
I could use a bit of help. I have a very stock, like out of the box, 2003 Wide glide. It has sat most of it's life and I had to strip the stock carb to clean out the junk. Pilot jet stopped up. Cleaned all of that crud out to a nice clean carb. Now the issue. The bike is flooding the intake like crazy, black smoke in the shop every time you crack or attempt to crack the throttle, bogging, backfiring, blowing the carb off the intake, dying out, you name it, it's all bad. I had been running it, checking it all out without it's air cleaner and I noticed the diaphragm/slid was not budging on cracking the throttle at all. I checked it out good and could not see any cracks or holes and it functions well in the carb with manual manipulation. If I hold that diaphram up while revving the bike, it runs like new again. The engine cleans out, idles well and it's good as new.......until I drop that slide again. What have I done wrong, or what am I overlooking?? I want to ride! Thanks all.

Ultrasonic cleaning may by the best way to clean that carb.
Check out these vids to make your own ultrasonic cleaner:

Possible there's a small burr/rough spot on the slide or grooves where the slide fits. With motor off see if slide moves freely up and down in the carb body - there will be slight resistance because of the spring but should still move easily.
If there is even the slightest catch along the way, that might be preventing the slide from working properly under vacuum pressure when the motor is on. Also check the manifold compliance fitting - after sitting for so long it may be cracked and leaking air upsetting the operation of the cv slide. If all else fails, may need to replace slide/diaphragm, or even the entire carb. Hope you get it worked out.
