Default I'm a rock. How do I change the rear pads?

I've searched this forum, and at least a dozen others, google, and youtube trying to find instructions on replacing the rear brake pads on my 08 FXD.

I've got the caliper loose, how do I get the pads of the bar at the rear? It doesn't seen to come out or unscrew, and I don't want to force anything and make it worse.

Pull the caliper off. Remove the 2 pin bolts and swap pads.

Does the pin at the rear press out? Unscrew? How do I get it out?

Its a small 12 point metric headed pin. 7mm or 8mm socket and there are 2 of them.

There are (2) 1/4" 12 point "bolts", they are actually pins that go thru the pads to stop the pads from rotating out of the calipers when the brakes are applied.
Get yourself a 1/4" 12 point socket. I had to grind the outside diameter of the socket to get it to fit in the recess around the head of the bolt. After you pull those pins, the pads should come right out.

I just did this last week and you DON"T have to take the caliper off!. Just push back the pistons , take out the 2 12pt screws and the pads fall out. I did both front and rear in 33 minutes.

The fronts were easy as hell on my bike but I don't see how it is possible to do it on the rear of my 07 Street Bob without taking the wheel off.
It says in the manual to do it just like thedonthere described but I cannot get my hand up in there to even compress the pistons. I just changed them when the rear wheel was off to fix a flat tire.

I called my local HD dealer to find out how to remove the pin. I was told it takes a special tool and I'd have to find a snap-on or mac dealer to get it. I then called a local place that works on Harley's and repeated what the dealer said. They laughed and told me to stop by sears and get a 12 point socket. Ten minutes after getting home from sears I had the pads changed. Knowledge is power!!

Cool. Now go over and sell your "special tool" to the tools at HD!
