I'm 35. My Dad is just old school. He's been riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles for a long time. He's a retired HD mechanic of 25 years. No doubt he knows what he is talking about. I think it may be just difference between old school and new. I don't know...

I have to go with what your dad said. I tried the black Thunderheader with chrome heat shields for a short time I couldn't warm up to the look. Ended up painting the whole thing black.

Tell your dad that you love him.And then tell him that the chrome stays on YOUR bike, it just fits your scheme better.IMO
