Default 2012 Super Glide Custom Exhaust Question ...

I looked in the "search" topics and didn't find what I was looking for, so I'll ask.

I just added a 2012 Super Glide Custom to the stable. As always ...the pipes have to be changed for sound, performance, and cooling. My question is ...where are/is the catalytic converter on this bike? In the header pipe, or the muffler? I mean I know its got to have cats, right? On my 2010 Street Glide, the cat is in the "collector" (no collector on the SGC). So, to get rid of the catalytic converter, i had to go with an aftermarket "full system" exhaust (V&H Power Duals w/Rinehart Mufflers). On the Street Glide, the cats showed up in 2010 ...prior to that no cats. So, if I bought 2009 MOCO header pipe ...no cats. What year did they start putting cats on the Super Glide?

Thanks!

In the front of the muffler. At least that's where they were on my 2010 FXDC.

I just bought a new 2012 DXDC also. Cats are in the muffler body on the FXDC & FXDB....if you're just wanting to get rid of the cats & have better sound, all you need are slip-ons. I put V&H 3" slip-ons on mine & they sound great!
On the FXDWG & FXDF the cats are in the collector in the head pipes, so you would have to replace the entire system to remove the cats, but not on your FXDC...just the slip-ons

I brought my stock parts home last weekend after having a ton of accessories put on it. I don't see how exhaust even flows through the stock mufflers! At the front are the cats, which are obviously restrictive, then looking in the tail end is a reverse cone with a FEW holes in the back of it to let the exhaust out. I'm guessing there is some serious back pressure generated by the stock exhaust! It says on them "meets EPA compliance of 80 decibels".

Thanks for the replies!

Sharkman73 ...thats good news! So all I have to do is "slip-ons" to loose the cats, and get better sound and performance.

I do like those 3" V&H slip-ons too. However ...that 2 into 1 Fatcat pipe looks pretty wicked on some of the Super Glides around here. Might just have to get a "full system" after all!

Hey Terry,

Don't make the same mistake a lot of us here have done. Buy the slip ons for the noise, no real performance, and then take them off 6 months later and put on a full exhaust. I just put on the vance and hines propipe 2-1 and love the sound, the performance and even the looks. With a stock stage 1 motor I picked up 15 horsepower. Here are a few pics of the new pipes....

Directharleypart.com has the full system for 479 and I paid like 340 for my slip ons. 140 more I coulda had the real thing

Hey sharkman, glad you got the new bike home. Do you find yourself going in the garage late at night and just staring at it?
Looks great!

If your going to do exhaust, think forward, and do it right the first time. Had to save the money up, but well worth it!

Don't have it home yet Rooti...got to see it all set up with accessories @ the dealer & hear it run though...love what I did to her & love the sound!

Waiting on decent weather here...been snowing & cold, but supposed to be 50 & sunny on Friday, so I'm going to get her & rider her home then....I can hardly sleep thinking about it!

Got to thinking last night...glad I put the forward controls on, but I may put my stock mid pegs back on also so I have another foot position for long rides if I want to move my feet around. I have the mounts & bolts, just need to pick me up a set of pegs & pins since the stock ones were re-used on my forwards. I know most do this the other way around as in keeping the mid controls & adding the highway forward pegs, but I think this setup would be practical also.
