I got some '08 FXDF downpipes off eBay pretty cheap that don't have a cat in them. Was easier than hacking up my original ones - especially as I can't weld for toffees .

Sound was noticeably louder.

Great work! Your motor will sound "healthier" and you might notice a slight improvement in throttle response and performance. To really take advantage of the improved exhaust flow, now would be a good time to add a high-flow A/C and some slip-ons if you haven't already done so. Ride safe.

I have an SE air in take and SE slip on mufflers. I hope it is worth the effort.

Are you still running the original pipes, or a set of slip ons? I've got an 08 downpipe lying around i was thinking about using with my stock 09 pipes.

I have the '08 downpipes and a set of Remus slip-ons.

Not sure that you are going to gain a lot with the original pipes though. Modern cats aren't supposed to offer much resistance and it would be your stock mufflers that would keep things restricted.
