Oil Pressure

Oil Pressure
Last week there were a few nice days, at least for Feb in NE Ohio. So I rode my Super Glide for the first time since November. I took it out four times, but I only rode it maybe 75 miles all together. The last two times I started it up the oil light stayed on for 5 seconds or so while the motor was running. It has never done that before. I am running HD synthetic oil and it has maybe 1000 miles on this oil change. It is a 2002 Super Glide with 17900 miles on it. I had heard from one person that when this happens a piece of the cam chain tensioner could be broken off and blocking the oil feed. As far as I know the motor has the original cam chain tensioners in it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I do still have a warranty on the bike for more then two years, so I am not that worried about it.

The oil filter is supposed to hold oil in it when the engine is off. I'd bet the anti drain back valve is leaking and it empties itself. That would mean the oil pressure won't come up until the filter refills. Start by replacing that.
I had that issue with a Drag Specialties filter a few years ago.
