Default Thinking of changing the front tire myself

I'm thinking of replacing the front tire on my 07 Superglide myself.

It looks like taking the wheel off the bike is pretty easy. Is this a valid assumption?

How hard is it to break the bead and remove the old tire and put the new tire on? Is it doable. I have a cast aluminum wheel. When I was younger, I used to change car tires on steel rims. Is this harder, the same or easier.

Ed

Years ago I worked in a bike shop and we had to change tires with hand tools. It was a bitch. This is probably something you don't want to do. Like Joe said, take off the wheel and bring it to an indy or dealer.

Taking the front wheel off is extremely easy as I found out with my 07 Street Bob. The rear wheel ain't bad either but it's kind of tricky lining up the spacers, caliper and wheel by yourself.

I took both my wheels to the shop to get the tires put on. Precision Motorcycles in VA Beach charged me $30 for the front and Bayside Harley over in Portsmouth ended up charging me $30 (they said they usually charge $50) for the rear. I'd rather pay someone that small amount to mount and balance them than have to mess with it.

unless you have your own hydrolic tire changer, take it off and have it done by a pro

Exactly! You can also get it balanced wherever you take it. My local indy charged $60 for both tires and balancing too.

I have changed many 21" front tires/with spoons but...anything smaller than 18" gets Very hard to do by hand. I'm with the others, take it to a shop.
