Default Anyone gone from a Deuce to a Fat Bob?

I have a 2003 Screamin Eagle Deuce but back pains have kept me from riding for longer than I care to admit.
I was considering trading in my Softail for a Dyna with the idea that the softer ride might be easier on my body.

Any thoughts? Has anybody done this transition? Are you happy or wish you stayed with the Softail?

Thanks,
B

dyna's are not known for their smooth ride. maybe a road king would be nicer to your back dude

The problem usually with lower back pain on a bike, at least for me, is the way you sit.

A bike such as the Deuce, and I'm sure the Fatbob with the forward controls will be the same way are, they **** you back on your lower spine which after an hour or 2 starts to make the lower disc bulge and hence the pain.

Personally, I have the same problem and have to have a bike where I sit with mid-controls and lean slightly forward as to alleviate this pressure.

I have a 2008 Fatbob. The comfort from your Duece to a Fatbob will not improve. The handling might. I think the forwards have a lot to do with it, I put a set of pegs in the mid position just for a resting place - helped some. Cushy= touring bike. Mike

I traded in my 2000 Deuce + cash last year for a 2011 Super Glide Custom. Big difference to me. The Dynas are like a touring bike. Not as smooth as my 09 Electra Glide but very close and way more fun to ride. I had disc surgery in 1991, bought my Deuce in 1999 (1st year). Love the bike but after long trips on the Deuce my back was beat up. I was tired when I got there. The bike is like riding a rigid. Don't forget when the Deuce came out they advertised a 30% more rigid frame than other Softails. I felt the bumps way more on the Softail than on my Dyna. I am not saying your back is going to get better riding a Dyna but it is a day and night difference to me riding the Dyna compared to the Deuce.

I never rode a deuce but I really like the ride of my Fat Bob. I don't feel beat up on long rides but my *** is numb and my lower back does get a little sore. I'm getting gel packs put into my seat and for my back I, by accident, discovered that a roll bag with the HD clip on back support sitting on the passanger pillon works great. Good support. I think Mustang and HD sell seats for Dynas with back rests. Again the I feel the Fat Bob doesn't beat me up but instead its the seat and lower rider body possition. These things are solvable and cost alot less than a tourer!

I switched from a heritage to a fxdc the mid controls and 6" risers and 883 bars really helped stop my back pain

I agree with DTDK. I put a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady with a backrest on mine.
It made a huge difference in the comfort level. I used to get numbness in my hands and cramped neck muscles after about 200 miles before with a Sundowner. It's much, much better now. I picked it up on Ebay for 1/2 of new price.

switched from a 2005 heritage softail to a 2011 street bob. I can ride twice as far as I used to be able to and arrive feeling much fresher on the bob. Handles better, smoother, with the 6th speed transmission you can cruise at 75-80 mph and it wont kill you . I have a terrible back. Using mid controls with hwy pegs and to me it works great.
