I hadn't ridden for a month,yesterday was nice so I went for a ride. After the motor was warmed up I ran it hard through the gears and it backfired when I shifted to 3rd. No big deal but when I came to a stopped it wouldn't idle but would respond to the throttle ok. I turned it off,restarted and it was fine. I checked for codes(none) and it runs normally now,what happened? Note that I have stabil in the tank for what it's worth.

 

id get some throttle body cleaner and spray it out.....a couple cleanings could clear it up..

 

Could be the IAC is dirty and the cold weather was making it sticky. Use the throttle body cleaner on it.

 

I'll try it but like I said all I had to do was turn it off and restart to clear up the glitch,this has been a perfect bike so I'm not real concerned,thanks for the replies.

 

I have a 2011 Softail Duluxe. Lately, every now and then after riding the bike and stopping to fuel it or turn off engine then after restarting I get backfire, rough idling, nearly dying and some backfire. Normally, after shutting it off and restarting it the problem goes away. Even when I have the problem it runs okay at higher rpms and accelerating. It has only happened about 3-4 times. I only have 8700 miles on it. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have similar problem, idle stalls occasionally, every restart it idles fine. Trust me, I have tried everything and it still does it. The problem is completely gone after I flashed my ecm with Power vision, not even once.
