Default 99 FXX with 88 motor. Need help with oil change and other fluids.

Don't have a manual (yet) and need to know how much oil goes into each hole. Planning on changing filter as well. On my sporty I have a primary and a different one for the trans. Are there three on this bike?

I'm using the mobile 1 sythetic 20w 50w v twin. Can i use this for everything?

My '03 FXDL uses: 3qt w/filter in the engine (20w-50 M1 V-Twin), trans is 24oz(+/-) 75w-150 (I use Spectro), and primary gets 26oz(+/-) Harley Formula+
There are those who use engine oil in all holes, but I would not in my cases.

I'm pretty sure there are differences between your newer 03 and my older 99 model.

Three different fluids??? Sounds a bit much. Figures that HD would make us use three different fluids just to do maintenance... Grrr.

Can I use this 20 50 stuff for all three? Do you guys have a link for my specific model?

Shouldn't be any difference between a 99 and an 03. Same everything. I believe there is a write up on how to change oil on the home page of this site. Look under the Dyna section. Not in the forums.

I'll make the suggestion that you buy yourself either an Owners Manual or better yet a Service Manual. Check on eBay. The actual Harley service manual is best, but the Clymer is pretty good. Would not recommend a Haynes manual. The SM will give you all the answers you look for.

Hey Red 5, does your engine have the cam bearing bulletin done to it. Just checking my service manual and the rear cam bearing is a roller bearing while the front is a ball bearing style. The answer to your oil questuon can be as varied as the different manufacturers of oil. I've heard of people using the same engine oil in all three holes and there are some that use different oils in the different holes (myself included). I use V-Twin in the engine, Syn3 in the primary (for 40K miles) and Mobil1 syn gear lube in the tranny. The website for M1 sez you can the same in all three.

you can use the mobil one in all 3 . it was designed to work that way. there are those who will tell you why you should use a different fluid in each area . Im sure they have there reasons for there opinions. I have used 20w50 synthetic in the primary/ transmission/engine on every bike I have ever had. I have had zero issues. To me its just too convenient when i'm on the road and I need a fluid change to use the same kind. I have done an oil change in a napa parking lot before and im sure im not the only one.

"Im sure they have there reasons for there opinions" Their opinion is based on the MoCo recommendation and specifications for those years as laid out in the OM and SM. Maybe those have changed in the later years?
