first thing is take them back off and change the oil, touring bikes come with 5wt and that made the ride way too soft on my WG, i swapped out to 10wt and when reinstalled only needed 9lbs of air with me and 15 lbs 2 up and it had a much better ride

also as P51 said, get a proper pump. i found mine on Ebay and it does 1lb increments which is really what you want for fine tuning.

either way , you are going to love them come spring

It's quite warm today, I decided to get a day permit for a test ride. First I tested the shocks without air, I am impressed, ride quality is night and day, noticeable improvement, almost thought I was riding my old Softail fatboy , I don't even feel little bumps I used to on hwy. Hit a feel pot holes and it did not bottom out, the ride is so smooth. Then I went to the gas station and put 10 psi on each shock, don't feel much difference but cornering is much stiffer, I really like it. Girl friend is too chicken s h i t to ride due to cold weather, will take her out when it gets warmer, I bet she's gonna love it. Money well spent on performance and appearance, I love these shocks, highly recommended.

P.S. Putting air in is a bitch, either get a Harley shock pump or an electric air pump, that way you can preset the air pressure. I tried to play with it with a tire pressure gauge and air chuck, sometimes too much, sometimes not enough.

I always ride solo, and believe it or not, I use a max of 15PSI.

Max pressure is 50 PSI, according to the Harley Davidson installation instruction sheets below.

Using more pressure then bleeding them down with a pressure gauge that has a bleed off valve works well, the trick is not to press the bleed off valve, you have to push it sideways, tilting the bleed off valve, this will slowly release pressure.

hmm......I wonder if the standard height ones are higher, I couldn't find instructions for those. No matter thought, can't think of a reason to go that high anyways.

I also put a set on my FXD and love them. I had to change the fluid in them because i bought them used but havent had the chance to test them yet. BTW i like my valves turned up instead of down also.

Im using a hand pump that you use to air up ***** it seems to do ok.

Is the ride much stiffer? Is there any advantage running higher pressure for solo? I'm curious, solo riding most of the time.
