I'm going to have my exhaust ceramic coated at Performance Coatings and i'm torn between two ideas. In both ideas i won't be using the heat shields.

First idea is to have them coated in the Satin Fresh Blast color and put on as is.

Second idea is to have them coated in the Satin Black finish and wrap all but the last 6"-12" in the white colored heat tape/wrap.

Has anyone done anything like this on a 2006 Street Bob?

If so can you please post pics? Even if you have another bike it would be nice to see what it looks like.

Not quite the same but close...should get your imagination going.

 

Maybe I'm just a wimp, but I tried running my exhaust with no heat shields and hated it. That extra heat coming from up under the seat was uncomfortable. At long redlights or when I was stuck in some traffic, I thought it was going to melt the vinyl on the seat and maybe even singe my jeans. I'm sure different exhaust designs would affect the header temperature and maybe mine are routed too close to the seat or something, but I would think any exhaust without heat shields is going to throw some heat up under your right leg.

Attached is a picture of my black ceramic coated exhaust with no heat shield and my signature has the chrome heat shields. Your coater *should* be able to coat your existing heat shields and that might be the ideal solution. One more note, the header wrap keeps the exhaust temps HOT. That's a slight performance advantage at the strip and maybe it looks cool, but it can cause premature failure in the exhaust system. I'm not saying don't do it, just saying you should be aware that there is a risk.

Yep, the RB Racing website is VERY emphatic about that issue (with gruesome pictures to make the point)...and their stuff is pretty high quality by any measure. They strongly discourage the use of wrap for the street.

 

yea i was worried about the heat but my other bike is a ducati and those pipes are directly under the seat so you can imagine the heat that dissipates off them, hopefully the harley won't be any worse.
