Do you know if it's likely a switch off a Sportster or a bagger might fit an '04 Defender application? Any possibililty they are all the same?
Current p/n for the Dyna 2003 & 2004 models (FXDP included) BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH KIT, REAR is 72023-51D.

thanks. know what they look like, but the measurements are the important thing, especially grip to grip width, but also the pull-back and rise. I appreciate the thought, thanks Dave

Dave, I have no official specs on the mini-apes that are stock on Dyna Defenders, but Rene asked me to make some measurements of the bars on my Defender and post for your benefit.

To the best of my knowledge and belief, my bike has the original, stock H-D handlebars that came on the bike when it was purchased new by the El Paso PD. This based on the info I was able to glean from the guy who bought this bike & others from EPPD at auction last July. However, I cannot be absolutely sure.

In any case, per Rene request, the measurements I made of the bars on my Defender are depicted below. Hope this is of some use

Thank you to Rene for making the request. Thank you JLF for the work getting the specs. Do you know the O.D. of the bars? 28" width...I think not a lot of leverage compared to the 32.5" stock bars. I suppose because of it's job being 'on the street' and not so much at highway speeds.
I very much appreciate the time and info. Thank you!

Dave

Yes, Dave. The bars are 1" O.D.

Yes, I would say you are correct on the leverage issue. My experience is limited, but in the short time I've ridden it (it's torn apart now for restoration), I was struck by how minimal the leverage is with these bars. But then again, I'm used to very WIDE dirt bike bars.

I have the 2004 FXDP parts catalog. If you need any p/n's just shoot me a PM and I'll check them for you!

Sometimes Ebay has auctions for FXDP parts. Another source could be Vintage Parts
can you let me know part number for the engine guard on a 2004 fxdb defender. Trying to see if I can use these to accommodate my BMC fairing and lowers. Thx

Besides the Online Parts Finder where you can get those numbers, Here's the 2004 FXDP Factory Parts Catalog that you can download if you want ... RIGHT HERE

I JUST sold one a couple weeks ago. I was trying to accommodate lowers and they didn’t work with the engine guard. I sold the Defender floorboards, shifter and brake pedal and went back to stock mids with a “regular” Dyna engine guard and the lowers worked fine.
