They are not, at least not on mine.

As to riding position comfort, I'm not qualified to say as I come from a career on dirt bikes & dual sports that goes back to 1968, and this Defender is my first H-D.

But I find the combination of footboards/PD-issue mini-apes/spring seat to be as comfortable as my BarcaLounger in front of the TV. I've riden it a lot since purchase just a few days ago, and I've found it extremely comfortable so far. Certianly more so than any dirt bike!

The guy I bought it from earns his cookies going around the country snapping up bikes at auction & flippin em. He was the one who purchased it from El Paso PD, not me. He hated the spring seat and high stance of the bike. But he was maybe 5'7". I'm 6'1". It fits me fine.

I like the look/style of the handlebar on the DP. The '03 FXDL parts manual shows one similar (#56081-01). Not sure if same tho.

Have you looked for a Service Manual for your DP? I looked at the wiring diagrams in mine, but I suspect the DP has its own SM as well. I saw nothing that would pertain specifically to the DP additions to the lighting/accessory wiring/harness.

p/n for the 2004 FXDP handlebar is 55921-85A

IMO the wiring diagrams for the FXDP are in the supplement repair manual p/n 99481-04SP. You'll find some for sale at Ebay.

I downloaded this.pdf version online (link removed; see Forum rule # 18 ). Only $10 + shipping or so, which I thought was more than reasonable. It includes the 2004 FDX Service Manual (PN 99481-04), Electrical Diagnostics Manual (PN 99495-04), and the Police Service Supplement (PN 99483-04SP). But none of the included manuals contain FXDP wiring diagram(s).

Perhaps I should've sprung for the extra $ & gotten a hard copy. I'm such a cheap-a$$.

You may want to check into your local regs. Most PD's take a very dim view of civilians riding bikes with that stuff on them. I remember reading a magazine road test of a Police HD about 20 years ago. The magazine testers had to get permission from the LAPD and CHPs beforehand to ride it on the road. They may have had to tape over the lights, too.

I don't know how I can remember this trivial BS and not what I did at work yesterday.

Good luck on your project.

Many thanks Rene. I don't know how you do it, but I sure appreciate the fact that you do! This will help me tremendously as I attempt to bring my old service veteran back to the image of her original glory days of law enforcement.

While I have your attention, let me ask you another question. My Defender has no brake lights at all. I suspect the brake light switch on the rear master is bad but I am having difficulty obtaining another as the sources I have been using for parts indicate the stop light switch on this model is obsolete/no longer available (same on FXDX). Do you know if it's likely a switch off a Sportster or a bagger might fit an '04 Defender application? Any possibililty they are all the same?
