Just rub in a small spot to see if the rag turns black. that will tell you if it's build up or can be polished. Raw aluminum will turn black with polish. Will not hurt anything. I am unaware of any aluminum HD wheels that are coated.

i polish a lot of wheels and have never run across any hd wheels coated.

Do what he said, I believe the factory mags are clear coated, the corrosion you see is usually under the clear, if you want to get rig of them you probably have to strip the clear, polish and clear again, that's why I hate mags, so much work.

I used Mothers aluminum polish with a powerball on my drill on my 09 Fatbob wheels. They turned real black so not sure if there was a coating but they really looked good afterwards.

Theirs no clear coat if there was it wouldnt pit so easy. FN HD should of clear coated their rims like the auto makers. Rims are a joke compared to vette rims and such

i use mothers aluminum polish and it makes a big difference. i didnt notice any clear coat on my mags. when i was a kid my dad was always polishing american torque thrusts by hand starting with 300 grit or so and ending with 2000 grit sandpaper, i got plenty of practice lol. u can make aluminum shine like crazy with some elbow grease and patience. it does oxidize so u need to hit the aluminum up from time to time to keep it blingin'.

I also have a Low Rider, an 07 with the factorg mags and I used Mothers with the Mothers Power Cone to polish up mine. It did a real nice job on the rims. If mine were clear coated from the factory it must have worn off because the Mothers Mag and Aluminium polish worked really well at cleaning and polishing my rims.....

Thanks for the info. Mine look fine, they're just not super shiny. I've only washed them when washing the bike.i kind scraped my finger nail on them yesterday and they had kind of a rubbery feel to them. I'll lightly polish them on the hub part and see what happens.
