Dyna vibrations
#22
With 2500 miles on the clock my front rubber mount was rubbing on the metal frame of the motor mount. You could actually see it removing rubber from the mount. Took it to the dealer and asked them about it. They said this is commom and they could trim the rubber mount down so it will have the proper clearance. After they did this the vibs were practically gone. They did this under warranty.

That is a sweet "chevelle" you have there.
Just playin rooti.
Handsome, i thought about doing this myself. Just happen to go to the dealer for something and talked to them about it. They did it on the spot in about an hour. I figured hell its under warranty so why not. Dealer did say this is common on the dyna's. He said if he replaces it with a new one it will probaly do it again. He suggested trimming the original since it has dropped into its spot now with a few miles on it. But i was supprised to see how much smooter it was. Hell it still vibrates, its a dyna. Just alot less than it did.

Hey Pontiac, not enough sleep I guess, when I logged back on before I saw your next post, I said to myself, "that's not a camero"... anyways i did look at my dyna and I seem to have a lot more spacing in that same spot...How many miles did you have on your bike when it started rubbing? I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks

On a lot of Dynas..there are a lot of bum rubber engine mounts. They changed the design of them in later years. When that front one goes "bad"...the vibration you get his horrible. Most of us know what a normal Harley v-twin vibration is...you can feel that on new bikes. But then that front mount gets "the gap"...the vibration is aweful. It's a higher pitched vibration that you can feel in your bones, gives a bad buzz to your bones...not a normal lumpy feeling, but a hideous buzzing in your bones that goes up your shins from the footpegs, up arms, makes your nose itch like you're in an MRI machine.
Nobody is looking for the boring sewing machine smoothness of a GoldWing, they just want their normal Harley feeling back...not the bone buzzing feeling of a bum front engine mount.

I think you guys that always say that, haven't felt what a bad vibration is. Every time there is an engine vibration thread, someone makes a comment like that.

+1 on that. Of course a Dyna is supposed to have vibrations, but there's a huge difference between the normal vibrations a Dyna is supposed to have and the excessive vibrations you have with a bad engine mount. The difference is undescribable if you haven't tried it yourself
