Todays bikes are FI, so the wait time is less than a carb model. Once you have oil pressure and the throttle is responsive you should be good to go. I ride all year long as long as the road conditions allow it and I usually start the bike and put on my helmet and gloves. That is about a minute or so and I just get on and go. I do take it easy for the first few minutes but these motors warm up pretty fast.....

****** let her run for 1 or 2 min then when riding on it wait a good 5 miles before you start to bang on her... the fuel injection really cuts down on warm up time and the map yo have in the bike will take care of the warm up cycle usually in the first min or so

I let everything I own warm up long enough to get the oil to operating temp. That's when it's protecting best. But that's just me

34 degrees was probably harder on you than your bike. Especially this early in southern Alabama.

Usually when I'm leaving work at 11pm, I'll sneak out a few minutes early and fire it up before I punch out.

It depends on how early it is... If its before 5:00am let it warm for 10 min, while revving it now and then.
Or until the neighbors lights come on.

Itll run til my helmet and gloves are on then ill take off, just letting it idle at a cold start for 10-20 mins does more harm than good in the long run....

I'd always been taught that with an air cooled engine you shouldn't warm it up by letting it stand - just get on and ride it, get the choke off as soon as you can and don't go over half revs and half a handful of throttle until 10 to 12 miles are done.

Yep, i just get on it and ride. Grant it that I do not go crazy in the throttle when it is still cold.
