Default Change module to eliminate ticking?

MikeSz,
I hope you're still on HD Forums because I have the same sound on my 2013 FLTRU with a 103 motor as "skidder" had back in October 2011. He said, "Running down the highway in 5th or 6th I twist the throttle hard to make a pass and I hear for a second or 2 this tick, tick sound. Bike runs fine and has all the usual sounds a HD will make."

I've got the same think with mine and it's worse on real hot days or when I have a passenger. It's especially bad with both. I think it's running too lean in stock configuration. I've got some Rush slip-ons, but I slipped them off and went back to stock mufflers.

Are we talking SERT or Power Commander? There's no other way to change the fuel delivery on an FI bike, except for maybe those X-ied adapters on the O2 sensors.

When I first got my 08 fatbob it did the same thing when I got on the gas hard, kind of sounds like a couple of gravel hitting the header part of the exhaust, when I bought the bike it had 1800 miles on it and the original owner had put on rush slipons, se heavy breather and v&h fuelpak on it. all I changed on it was- swapped out the fuelpak for a power vision with a fuelmotto map and I have not heard it ping since. The pinging was not that bad but it was noticeable. Just running a little lean would be my guess.

Old post but . . . it's probably the fuel injectors. Normal.

Pinging aka spark knock. Get your timing in check.

What tuner you got?

Update: Oh you got VH Fuelpak. HAHA! When my bike had VH Fuelpak, it did exact same thing except in 3rd gear. Do yourself a favor and go PowerVision and tune it out yourself.

That's the problem with the v&h fuelpak, it cant adjust the timing.

It's pinging. Mine started at about 5500 miles and steadily got worse. Before It caused damage to the engine I ended up retarding the timing a few degrees and that stopped it. Only way for me to get into the timing tables was to put a PCV on it, there was no other way. Never hear the dreaded ping anymore.

My bike did the same thing. It was a ping. I had it dyno tuned. Turns out top end was running lean and bottom was to rich. The ping stopped!!!

Damn, my bike is pinging as well then! I felt like the noise was coming from the A/C, like tiny pebbles hitting the inside of the A/C metal cover....

I notice this first when the dealer replaced my air filter on my 10k mi service. I thought they didn't tighten it hard enough. But i checked and it's tight.
I then manage to overfill the oil with the consequence that the air filter got clogged with oil, restricting the airflow, pinging gone. Now, cleaned out the airfilter, the pinging is back... It all makes sense now...

I have the xied, but they are useless for pinging as the pinging takes place when at WOT, i.e. in open loop... while xieds only enrich the closed loop.

Well if you twist it open radically in 5th or 6th your putting a lot of demand on your motor and i'd be surprised if you didn't hear ticking. 3 or 4 ticks is nothing, but my advice to you would be take at least a second and a half to when fully opening up that throttle, and downshift from 6th for sure, you will be way more in your power band that way ( 6th is more of a cruising gas saver anyway)
