I think that if the bags are mounted lower, the width is not near as bad.

Here's how mine looks if it helps. Bags aren't quick detatch, but I do have the hardware on for a detachable sissy bar/luggage rack.

I have some hand made bags, but I use Ghost Brackets. I love the bags but I do not recommend Ghost Brackets. They rattle, look crappy and stick out. I suggest EZ brackets. I think they a lot nicer. Here are the Ghost brackets on my bike.

your fender looks much wider than mine, so the bags look good

ok can see the attachment pic now ... your signal light bar makes a huge difference also, looks similiar to hubby's Road King classic

That is precisiely why I chose Boss Bags. They appear to hug the bike tighter than the LeatherPros I've seen:
