keep mine @ 2kor above. Some exhaust pipes just "pop" I am told. Hope this helps.

I ride above 0 rpm because the bike has to be running before I can go riding.

Seriously though, lugging your bike is not good. There are things you can do to rid your bike of the dreaded decel pop such as using a quality fuel management device (add-on / replacement ecm / software) and a dyno-tune from someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Remember, if a dyno-tuner's price is too good to be true (too cheap), it probably is.

I understand that the twin cam will never sound like an Evo or shovelhead and if that is the sound you are looking for then there is a large used motorcycle market out there. Don't try to lug your bike to achieve a sound.

if you lug your engine to keep the noise down then your pipes are toooo loud , its that simple ,

never lug your engine , it will wear the thing out and add strain to the pistons con rods etc , keep it smooth , you be able to do 60 mph in 6th gear fine , if it doesnt pull o.k then again you have the wrong pipes on , because your missing back pressure and torque ,

i can pull in 6 th from just about 50 mph if I'm gentle with the throttle with no lugging at all , but its best to drop a gear or 2 , and accelerate properly , thats the way things a designed to work ,
no need for a rev counter , just change gear when it feels right

try stock pipes with slip ons like SE or RUSH , they sound pretty nice and only get loud when you give it a fist full , and they don't become uncomfortable when cruising at highway speeds , just a nice throbbing ,

some brands like V&H are very harsh , i hated my straightshots , but i really like the rush slipons on my fat bob .

On my 2011 Ultra Classic those numbers are right from the manual and the rpm's are between 2000-2500.
