TC dynas thrive on revs,it is,despite appearances,a modern motorcycle.

I have a 30T pulley also - usually run around 3000 plus or minus 200. Occasionally it will drop down to 2500 but anything lower than that feels "lug & slug". Also with this pulley 3000 in 5th gear = 65 mph

2000 rpm is fine if your just cruising and there is minimal throttle turn. But if your gonna crank on it, it's not good. Downshift.

I think this conversation shows the good of having two things: a tach and a dyno-run print out.

And no I don't mean a dyno-tune which costs a lot more. I had mine dyno-tuned, and I reccomend it, but it is not necessary to my point here - just do cheap single run and you'll get a graph showing your torque curve.

My point is that it is really good info to know where your torque curve maximum begins and ends. Then with your tach, you can ride without guessing.

Like many, I like the sounds of low RPM's, so around town when I'm just putting I keep it between 2K and 2500. But if I need to accelerate I down-shift so I don't lug the motor.

My torque curve peak starts at 2900. It is amazing the difference 100 rpm's make. While loaded up for my recent Sturgis trip, when I went to pull a steep hill, if I entered the hill at 2800 I had to use a lot more throttle, and it accelerated slowly. But if I hit the hill at 2900 (or above) I used about 1/3 less throttle and could accelerate easily. So I typically kept the rpm's at 2900-3000 all the time.

The other side of power is efficiency. The peak of your torque curve is where your bike is most efficient which means where you get your best fuel mileage.

Mine does not like 2500 to 2900 in any gear. I keep it above 3000 most of the time. It reduces the vibration and is always ready to pull!

1st and 2nd I can cruise at 2000rpms and under..once i hit 3rd i'm usually always between 2000 and 2400 rpms *when cruising 3rd gear.

Once I get into 4th gear, I cruise anywhere from 2200-3000rpm (I don't ever go below 2200 as the bike lugs). When I'm at 2400-2600rpm the engine feels the best; same for 5th gear. 6th gear I'm minimum 2500rpm but usually 2700-3000 rpm.

These are while cruising, not WOT. Hope this helps.

Im using a terry components TV3 and was amazed while on my recent trip at 80MPH got 45-50 MPG consistently and excellent passing power . I did not baby the bike at all but rather ran it very hard. I am not tripping any error codes and I really like this setup so far. I love the 6th speed on these new dynas . Man this is fun. (Ride it like you stole it). Number one priority .. have fun!!

Just purchased mine last week. I have just under two hundred miles on it, but I really like the new console. With a touch on the trip button you can get the gear and rpm along with the clock and all the other stuff. Just moved up from a Sportster and really love the ride of the Superglide. Shifts and rides so smooth and so much more power.

Thats right Man-O' War, lugging is bad for these engines. Love those pipes of yours. Got some on order from Vance and Hines right now. UPS to deliver them next Tuesday. Can hardly wait to set and hear them. Just got my Superglide last week after a trade-up from my Sportster. Love this bike.

Every one of these guys is right. Particularly since Harley took out the Timkem Lefty bearing in '03, ( crankshaft support,) and installed a weaker cast crankshaft in 07, the one thing you never want to do is lug your motor. 2500 to 2900 for me, ( just turned 92,000 miles on mine)
