I used to lug my bike keeping rpm's from 2-2,500 and it seemed to run ok. I read through all the threads I could find on this forum about what rpm other people were riding/shifting at and found I was lugging my motor. Now I don't shift till 3k in any gear and never get below 2,500 rpm. It's amazing how my bike came alive when I got the rpm's up. Clutch shifted smoother and vibrations smoothed out. Everybody is right when they say these motors like to rev!!

Hello All,

Most of my riding is at inserstate speeds. My '06 SG's sweet spot is 28 - 3200 RPM. That puts me in the 75-80 MPH range. In town.... 22-2500 RPM in whatever gear traffic will allow. Best sounds W/ V&H Big Shots for me, is a slow, steady axcel. shifting at about 2400. Want to git quick.... run it out to about 44-4800 til cruise.

Life is good.... best wishes.... Tim

I like to ride in 3rd gear at 45 mph. 4th gear at 50 to 60 mph. I use 5th above 65 mph. Cant remember last time I used 6th.

Montana is 80 MPH all the way. 6th gear works great here. YMMV. What ever you do and how ever you choose to ride , do not lug the motor. Harley's do not like to be lugged and if you break it in that way it will kill your motor power later. I am surprised so many people worry about not revving the motors too much. The stock rev limiter is approx 5500 RPM for a reason. Its a lot more fun if you give it some gas and let er run!

Cruising RPM 3000. Hit 4000 pretty regular in 2nd-4th and don't shy away from 5000 when needing to git. Rarely am I below 2500 once moving.

Default What RPM???

Being an advocate for slightly higher revs. I added the Andrews 30 tooth power Pulley.....one of the best mods ever on my Scoot. Run 2600 to 3200 RPM's Sixth and first are so much nicer than pre-30 Tooth. Don't Lug a V Twin!!!
However, the paranoia about 6th gear lugging is over emphasized. Just keep the motor at or just below the Power Band and you'll both be happy.

Just RIDE

GARY
