Death to forward controls. Agreed, they're not too bad under 60 mph. Past 60, it's terrible. As soon as I can raise the funds my FXDF is getting mids. It's a lot of work to go from fwds to mids though.
Rivco risers have nearly eliminated the lower back pain I used to get. I put highway pegs on the bike when I bought it, and can't imagine not having them. I use the mids in traffic, but otherwise I'm heel shifting/braking on the highway pegs.
When y'all day highway pegs you mean the front pegs right? Mine has factory rubber pegs at mid and front. I'm thinking I want floorboards on the front and angle them so they match my natural foot angle when up front if that's possible. That should block most of the wind off my feet too. I only put my feet up there now and then on a long ride when my legs need stretching. Stirrups are floorboards with the lips around the bottom right?
I just tuck my toes under the brake and shifter on the highway.
I do the same...I also use the kuryakyn switchblades which support your heel. I've kept the mid pegs on the bike along with the passenger pegs. On a long ride I have used everyone of the pegs on the bike.
I already have a lower back that complains after a while and am also thinking about a seat with backrest for longer trips even though I hate the way they look. I'm only 5 ft 10 in and it does seem that my legs would be more comfortable a little farther forward.
If your running a oem seat you may be surprised at the difference a new seat will make (even one without a backrest)
The bottom line is forwards are not for everyone.I don't know if it's the wind or gravity but when I ride with forwards or highway pegs I feel like I have to put a constant effort into keeping my feet on the pegs. This is not very comfortable which as far as I'm concerned defeats the purpose.
