It's funny because I see guys posting all kinds of crazy solutions to cleaning gunk off chrome, when all it takes is a $2 pack of fine steel wool and windex. Comes clean in about 5 seconds. Old school trick that cant be beat.

Gum turpentine or Goo Gone will remove road tar, no abrasives are necessary. Acetone is the main ingredient in finger nail polish remover and it is nasty stuff, but I like it for a lot of things, just try to use rubber gloves. Gum turpentine and Goo Gone work just as well and are not as toxic.

Goo Gone, credit card and cotton towel. Guarantee it will take it off, but might also need some elbow grease.

Blue Job. You can get it at the stealership. Works great on chrome and paint.

Amen to that. Turtle Wax chrome polish is awesome stuff and I don't think they've changed the formula in like, 100 years haha. I've tried Mothers, Eagle One, Maguiar's, you name it. I always wind up back at the Turtle Wax. That's saying something since I'm a die hard Maguiar's guy.

older (pre-2000?) copper penny. Softer than the chrome, tar comes off easy as spit.

I believe it was either '82 or '83 when the switch from pure copper was made.

+1 easy to use, very little effort, and cleans almost anything off chrome.

Never-Dull cotton wadding. Cheap easy and very effective. Also makes it easy to keep off painted and black bits.
