My 2007 Wideglide did the same thing. Discovered that there is a shop bulletin that says replace the washer in the top of the steering head with a thinner washer and tork to 70 lbs. i thing the washer is $1.85. Completely corrected the problem. Not sure of the shop bulletin number but it was mentioned on this site several years ago.

 

Same here but I heard the washer will loosen up so I kept the original washer with the bent tab on to keep it locked in. I put the new washer under it & ground off a flat spot so the tab on the old washer fits over it. The knock is completely gone.

I read it in the manual for both my 03FXDL and my 08 FLHRC Got grease zercs on both for that purpose.

I have also the "clunk" sound at the front end of my '07 SB when riding!
I tightend up my gastank, it was loose, but I also noticed a "clunk" (in I think the neck bearing) when i pull the front end, back and forward!
So I adjust it with the bearing nut in (even tightend up) every way, but it's still there.
Any further suggestions??

I had both a loose gas tank and needed steering head adjusted. Talk bout double clunk.

 

When you tighten the steering head bolt or steering stem nut, the lower tree clamps on the forks need to be loosened so that the trees are drawn together during the "tightening" process. Don't forget to tighten all fasteners (lower fork tree) after the top is tightened.
