Drag Bar Solution for Super

RE: Drag Bar Solution for Super
Sorry, I hit the "Go" button before I finished my post. Please disregard the first post and take it from here.
I’ve seen quite a few posts where members were frustrated by the problems encountered with the Superglide speedo/bar clamp combination and thought I’d offer a solution that’s working for me.
I installed the Wild1 Chubby® Pullback Drag Bars Part#'S WO500 on my 2005 Superglide. Wild1 describes these as having a 6” rise, 10.5”pullback and 30.5 width and the resulting grip position is only slightly back and up from that of the stock bars – maybe an inch each way. The stock cables all fit without binding or excessive free play on the clutch, throttle and front brake. The stock speedo was mounted in a bracket from an earlier Dyna model. I'm sorry I don't know the HD part number, I got the bracket of e-bay, but HD makes a chrome version for about $85.00. The indicator lights and the speedo fit perfectly – both snapped/screwed right in. I cut the switch wires (turn, start, run, horn, etc) behind the headlight. Chasing the wire harness under the tank and in the frame backbone to the Deutsche connectors would have been more aesthetic/professional, but I found the headlight hides the splices. My dealer said there’s a fair chance of hosing the connector when trying to pull the harness out of the backbone and its difficult to get it back in there without removing the tank. I ran the switch wires inside the bars using the vacuum method as described in Wild1's website. I then used 1 ¼” clutch cable clamps to attach the bracket to the integrated risers. The results, at least in my opinion, look better than trying to bolt the speedo bracket to the headlight shell. Another option is to use Accutronix’s speedo bracket attachment as member Dglide04 discussed in his post when he installed the W0560 Low Profile Drag Bar.

RE: Drag Bar Solution for Super
Glad to hear the new bar installation went well. Aside from being a little time consuming, removing the tank and pulling the wiring harness out of the frame backbone to access the Deutsch connectors was not anything real difficult. Its just not something you want to begin in the morning if you want to go riding that afternoon. No big deal for me, I did mine during a winter layover and actually brought the bars, grips and switches into the house where it was more comfortable to work.
Good luck, post a photo of the bar installation when you get a chance.

I might have to look into those bars, they look REALLY good! plus I think bringing the bars a bit closer to me would solve the pain between my shoulder blades after about 80 miles. I get a slight cramp just to the right of my spine and under my collar on my shirt. Has to be the handlebars. Have you made any long trips with the new bars?

2 Up,
I rode about 100 miles on Saturday and the bars were fine, much better than stock. If you want the grips closer, check out the W0560s that Dglide04 put on his Superglide. The 560's are low profile drag bars with a little more pullback. Ride Gear has good prices ($169.00 versus MSRP over $200.00) and they ship for free sometimes. Wild1 Chubby quality is unbeatable. Go to their website and you can see pictures of various bikes with the bars installed.
