Default WIDE TIRE KIT QUESTION

I plan on getting the 180 Wide tire kit. However I want to use a Metzler not the S-E Dunlop. Will the dealership order the Metz and switch out the tires???Or do I have to buy the Metz and eat the Dunlop?

Good luck man....somehow I doubt highly that a dealer will give you that option. The kit specifically includes the SE dunlop.

In my opinion, why don't you try the dunlop. I have the 180 SE and I like it alot. It seems to handle fine for me. Then if you don't like that, get the metz.

If you are able to find a dealer that will do that for you...please let me know who it was. I'll buy my next bike from them

Ive been check'n the Metz web site out, which specific tyre do metzeler make to suit. I see a lot of 17 inch rear 180/55 tyres. I don't see a 60 or 70 profile. Wouldn't the 55 profile really mess with speedo calibrations. Standard profile is 70 the SE tyre is 60. Can anyone be more specific with their Metzeler tyre choice.

If you go here:
http://www.ironpony.com/ironponydire...CTS&?s=o&k=264
you can click on different manufactures and check the sizes, like you said there are a lot of 180/55/17 tires but not 180/60/17. I'll ask that site what would happen if someone used a 55 instead of a 60.

Here's a tire calculator to determine your speedo question:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
or here
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Smaller size '55' instead of '60' will read a slower mph by about 2.8%

I've been looking around at same thing. My dealer said "No", but I have read posts where dealer did install non HD parts. I think it is up to the specific dealer. It is reported that metzlers in the same size run thinner then other tires. The 160 looks thin and metzler has not made a 170, yet. A 180 will probable fit newer dynas with minimal effort. Since the wide tire kit uses the same wheel with what probably is different spacers and a part you can buy from Harley that holds wiring out of way, most of the money spent on wide tire kit is for the tire. Looking at picture of dunlop screaming eagle tire it looks respectable with very similar tread pattern to metler and avon.
Look around for indy Harley shops or call a couple different dealers. Good luck.
