Default Slammed? How to mod your kickstand.

Lean your bike to the right or lift it. Remove the spring while the kickstand is in the up position. It looks stronger than it is. It can be removed and installed by hand. Remove the cotter pin, washer and pivot pin. The lickstand can only be removed and installed in the up position. I grinded the tab quite a bit (Pic 1) and finally the weld kept the kickstand from sinking into the hole even more(pic 2/3). I grinded it too all the while going back and forth trying it to make sure I didnt go too far. I got the fit where I wanted it and the lean was just right. I put the hardware back on and tried it to find the spring pulls the stand in a direction in which the frame needs to be grond a hair to get the rod of the kickstand to sink into the frame a bit. I had to think about this part a bit before I ground on my frame. My reasoning was the aftermarket stands suck and it is better to grind a little under the bike than have it tip and grind on top if ya know what I mean. So as you can see in the last two pics I notched it a little and tried again. Perfect. Now it leans like it did raised up normal. Pete

Default Nicely done

With pictures! Now I can get my mind around this and put it on my bad weather project list.

Thanks again - TP

Yep, good info. I paid $48.00 for my new -1" kickstand. I have a video on here using a hacksaw to install forwards, and I have done many mods...the one I didn't want to do myself is the piece of metal that holds my bike up.

Thanks guys. It is pretty easy to do and if I did it again it would take no more than 30 minutes. I tried it out at the local bar last night on an off camber sidewalk and it worked great. I know what I've got if I do it myself like my custom detach sissy bars and my shaven seat. Pete

Pete Thanks for the information and the heads up. I'll be looking at mine to night. It's been a big issue up to now.
