Default Options for SB Battery band?

OK guys I have done a search on the forum and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I want to change the stock aluminum battery band - paint it flat black to match my denim bike - but is it worth powder coating or could I rattle can paint it myself?

Has anyone else done this? any advice, thoughts? Thanks.

DIY painting of most of the trim pieces on the bike are very do-able "mods" - lots of guys on this forum, myself included, have done it with great results. Key factors: good surface prep, multiple light coats rather than single heavy coat, ample cure time before assembly. Exercising patience during the entire project is also key in obtaining the desired results. Hope it works out for you.

Sand, clean, primer, rattle can, as easy as 1-2-3, did mine the other day, looks as good as powder coat.

400, I didn't even take the trim off coz the clips are tight, didn't want to break them. I masked it and painted, that's it. Use texture flat black, it looks just like powder coating.

i didnt even prep mine, just cleaned and painted it. the aluminum takes the paint fine.

the tabs are tight, but if you take the battery cover off, you can push the tabs out from inside the panel. takes 2 minutes.

I just painted mine with textured black satin from a spray can. Never had a problem.

I used two types of sand paper, harsh and fine. Dont remember what ###. Then i washed with water and let it dry. Then I used spray paint (rustoleum) heat resistant up to 500 degrees in flat black. Put about 500 miles on and it still looks good.

It should not be a major exercise, I removed the cover and i think it made it easier.
