Default Another DIY mistake? Handlebar swap

Ok guys, I changed out my handlebars this weekend on my SG. I went with Wild 1 Chubby 1 1/4 drag bars. I got all my wires run and them mounted, everything was going good until I got to the hand controls. They don't fit around the handlebars flush. They are a 9/16 bore. My question is did I run the handgrips up to far to not allow them to fit on the 1" section of the handlebar, cause when I tried that it seemed the wires was crimped going into the switch housings. Plus I didn't think they grips should go just half way on the bars. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Can you post pics of what you are talking about? But I will attempt to figure out what you are talking about.

The 9/16 bore is the brake, not the controls. The one complaint I have about wild1 bars is the placement of the wiring hole, I had to enlarge that hole to work with my PM controls, but it was no big deal.
The controls do not have to go any further than the 1" part of the bars. wild1 tapers the transition from 1-1/4 to 1", the controls butt up against that taper, they do not overlap it.

I can post some pics tonight, at work right now. I was talking about the housing that holds the front brake/clutch onto the handlebars. If that is the case that I need to make the hole bigger and move the grips out farther, I am screwed lol..Gotta figure out how to get the left side grip off now, dummy me glued it already.

That is why I prefer set screw grips...sorry about that..always make sure everything fits before you make things permanent.

By making the hole bigger, I do not mean bigger diameter, but elongated.

The grips do not need to go all the way up the bars, just far enough to meet the control housings.

Bet you have some great roads out there in your area, will have to get there one of these days.

Yeah the roads are pretty nice to ride. Any suggestions on how to get the grip off now?

Heat would be the first thought if you have a heat gun. If you can remove the control and use some kind of blade to break the seal that might work as well.

I might try it and see, if not, just chalk it up as an expensive lesson learned I guess.
