Oil leak from left side center, possibly the mainshaft seal?

yes, it is a plastic carrier for the ***** of the bearing. In the one picture, one of the ***** is noticably not there but it is in deeper against the inside bearing. I am pretty sure there is only a small amount of loose debris and it is all plastic.

seems there is none and that Baker was using the same bearing

I am wondering if it is possible to hook onto the main drive gear and yank the bearing out with the mainshaft intact?
I am sure that would be possible because it is the basic process described in the service manual, but how hard would it be to install the gear back into the case, without wrecking the mainshaft and the new bearing?

At this point I would want to strip it all down just to check the rest
of it out and clean everything

Not the only one. I haven't ridden mine and actually had forgotten about it. Looks like a pretty hefty size job there. I actually might need to get some help with this one, if that is were mine leak is coming from.
Good luck to you on getting it fixed up.

I had to replace my main drive bearing last year. Looked just like what you have (the plastic ball holder had broke in to pieces) my ***** were also pitted. I'm pretty certain you'll have to pull the trans. and the main drive gear to remove and install that bearing. I made my own removal and install tools it was a PITA but with some trial and error I finally came up with the right spacing to get the job done.

I have'nt been on the forum for a while, but I had the drive gear seal, input shaft seal and inner primary seal replaced on my 07 FXD earlier this week. the dealer was able to pry the old seals out so the transmission did'nt have to come out (the bearing was ok). Oil started appearing about 20 thousand miles ago (it's done a bit over 80 thousand miles) and it slowly got worse. Had the seals done, throttle cables adjusted, a misfire fixed and steering head bearings checked. The dealer gave it a really good check over ( they have'nt seen one with anywhere near that many miles on the clock) and did'nt charge for it. Whole lot cost just over 400 bucks and it's like having a new bike again. So yeah, I am interested in what you are doing and I thought it was only 06 softails that were susceptable to this happening.
