Default Riser Question...?

Hey guys...

I'm not riser smart. I want to go with a 14"-15" ape on my Street Bob but I need risers. What exactly will a 4" riser do versus a 2" riser? Will a 2" riser add two inches of extra height to the bars making a 14" bar 16" from the triple tree? It seems like simple math but I need to make sure. If that's the case then a 12" bar with a 2" riser set will suit me. Also, does anyone use pull back risers and would they look good with apes? Thanks

Curt

Disregard that pull back question...ape's and pullbacks don't go well together..

Yes, your math is correct and yes pullback risers with tall handlebars looks like a$$.

Instead of guessing what height would be best, sit on your bike and throw your hands out and let them settle in their natural comfortable spot. Have a friend measure the distance there is between your hands and the top of the trees. Now you'll know what height you'll prefer.

Or, you can ask someone who has similar height bars if you can sit on their bike to feel them out. While at Myrtle Beach bike week last year I met a young guy who had an 06 WG. He was talking to me about my apes (16's) and asked nicely if he could sit on my bike for a test feel. I obliged. No harm. No foul. You might luck out at a bike night.

Apes need short risers, like SC said, tall risers with apes look fugly.

Wild1 makes some really good risers, much beefier than the stock so they won't flex like the skinny stock ones do.

Another way to test for bar height is make some out of pvc pipe, make em tall and cyut them down till you find what feels best.
You can bolt it right into your risers and adjust to any position.

Yeah I saw a Street Bob listed with a local dealer that has the bars I want but they are 16" so thats a bummer. My buddy has 12" apes but his grips come back too far...like beach bar feel. I'll just go around this weekend and sit on some bikes. Thanks!!

Beauty of apes, you can push the bars forward as much as you want, or pull them back.

Yes sir, that's exactly why I need them. If the VA saw me riding to an appointment the way it is now I'd probably lose my claim haha. It's okay to hurt when you are having fun!
