Default Superglide Sport

I see a lot of you guys lower your bikes and put on ape hanger bars. I have a different take on the Superglide they should have built....... My bike has XR1000 bend handlebars, Racetech gold valves and springs in the front forks, and Ohlins shocks on the rear. You can see a lot of rear tire on my bike! It actually has "sag" like a dirt bike when I sit on it and ground clearance through the twisties is never a problem. I am working on a Brembo front caliper and am looking forward to wearing out these stock tires so I can get some Metzlers or perhaps the Screamin Eagle Dunlops........

Nice setup! I am not an apey guy either. I like the look, but its not me... Also do not think I'll lower mine I am happy where I am. I am going to look at Brembo also for a dual disc on the front. Not sure what to do with the suspension yet...

I own a Superglide Sport, and wouldn't think to lift it. I have a dirt bike for that sagging suspension feel.

To each their own though...

On my 99 FXDX I had it set up as close to an Xr1000 approach as possible , with my wide glide I have mini apes , but have pulled them back about 2 inches , much better ergonomically . To me it's always about handling and control. The WG shocks are 2" lower than the FXDX (1" lower than stock WG) it actually handles better, of course it does have better shocks and a wider rear tire .

Apes may look "old school Biker" but for me no good for handling .. to each thier own

I didn't try to lift the bike. The Ohlins have about 3/4 to 1 inch of sag. Not really like a dirt bike but more than those things harley calls shocks that come on the bike. The tires really stick to the road with this setup. The faster I ride the better it works.......

That's waht I want - I posted a bunch on this topic. Unfortunately, the '06 and later Glides have different triple trees, etc - than the '05 and prior, let alone the old FXRS-SP. I tried the low rider and XL bars on my '06 FXDI35 - and the bend was right but the reach was way too far away.
I was hpong that the '07 model year would bring back the "flat track" bend - but it didn't happen.

Yeah thats cool, but I do know that Harley Davidsons (especially the SG Sport) ride nice, and grip the road very well being lowered too. Having raced dirt bikes since I could walk, and owning over half dozen crotch rockets I do realize the importance of tuned suspension. Yours is just not a set-up you see to often, but that is the great thing about Harleys-they are all unique...hence my previous statement, "to each their own!"

Ride on Dude...

How long are those shocks? Do you have to reach further with the XR1000 handlebars? How much did the shocks and race tech gold valves improve the ride?

the shocks are 13 1/2 inches I believe. but since you can dial in preload, rebound, and compression the bike only really sits high without a rider. The bars are comfortable for me, I am 5'10" tall. I did roll them back slightly. they are right out of the HD catalog for $50 ( and they are also availabe in black). What I like about the bars is the angle they give my wrists as compared to the stock "buckhorns" they put on the 06 Superglide. The combination of the suspension is awesome. Firm but very level and much less dive on braking. bobcowen has an excellent post over in frames/suspension that turned me on to the fact that 06 and newer Dyna can use the v-rod gold valve kit from Racetech.
