Default Cold oil check is very unreliable.

Yeah, the manual says the cold check should register oil mid-way between the Full and Add marks. Mine stays pretty much the same, cold or hot. Bike runs good and I had a Harley tech look at it and said it is not overfilled. He said it was just right, at the Full mark when hot. Anybody else have the same experience? This is my first dyna, 2011 SGC.

I usually check oil cold between full and add, it should come up a bit when it gets hot but not necessary. If you have similar reading cold and hot, I don't too worry.

Thanx all. I've had the bike 4 mos.& still learning its quirks. Why the heck do put that junk in the manual? They should just tell ya to check it hot. I guess if you check it cold and dont see any oil at all on the stick, that could be a worry.
