There's a couple of options to relocate the speedo without replacing the tank, one is to buy a older superglide bracket (05 and earlier, that is not built int the top clamp) and attach it to your risers using billet clutch cable clamps, or if you want pullback risers some sportsters have a pullback riser with a speedo cup built on top that will work with your speedo. Accutronics sp? also makes a bracket to mount the speedo to the risers.I kind of like the speedo on the bars because you can see it and the road at the same time and the aircraft type gas cap is probally the best one that Harley has ever made, no leaks ever.
The first set-up I did on my 08 Super Glide was the stock set-up from the 07 FXDSE. I liked it a lot but the bars were a little to much of a reach for me.
Second time around I put a low rider/ SB tank on it this way I could use the stock speedo.
FWIW one of the reasons I chose thw FXD over the other Dynas was the aircraft fuel cap and the handlebar speedo. I like the looks and the functionality.
there is a guy on this forum who modified and relocated his speedo moving the speedo to the risers using clamps and the dummie lights to the tank panel. it was actually a very cleaver idea! cleaned the bike up nice.
