Don't clean it. That is a protective film the stealership mechanic installed during your last oil change. They'll void your warranty if you remove it.

 

Am I the only one that thinks the picture is of the oil cooler?

They leak from time to time and need repair when leaking.

Regulators do not have oil pressure lines coming in and out of them.

 

Is there a chance that the voltage regulator is filled with oil for cooling like a coil on a car ??? If so, maybe it has a leak.

The finned object looks to have oil lines on each end of it coming out of the bottom, unless it's an illusion where the oil lines are going?

As dirty as it all is it may be a voltage regulator (unlike any of the one's I've seen). Or is it buried below the finned object?

 

It looks like my old lowriders voltage reg, on top and front motor mount on the bottom. I might be havin a oldtimers moment lol

 

dude, there are no oil lines coming off of that thing....It's a voltage regulator and a motor mount pictured. The mount gets oil on it 90% of the time during an oil change. Should get cleaned thoroughly afterwards but often doesn't. The film left over attracts dirt and road grime..which is abundant in that area, especially if you aren't running a front fender. Spray it off with some brake parts cleaner/carb spray/electrical parts cleaner or any other non combustible aerosol cleaner when it's cool to the touch. Also the clutch cable can sometimes draw oil up inside of it, thats the lowest spot for the routing of the cable and it too can sometimes collect some oil in that area..Neither is a huge dilemma unless it's actually leaking onto the ground in puddles. Clean it, check your levels, adjust as neccessary, move on with life

 

Um, yeah...that's the regulator. Dyna's don't come with an oil-cooler unless you installed one.

For the record, that rubber thing below that has the two large allen head bolts mounted vertically is the front isolator.

Yeah no oil cooler on this yet. I've been thinking of getting one.
I cleaned it all up last night and will watch it. I didn't realize that's where the motor mount was. That's what is covered in oil, not the regulator. The rubber around it looks pretty chewed up too.
