Comming from STL it is impossible to ride through some storms due to the rate in which it comes down. About a dozen times a year it rains so hard the traffic has to stop on the freeway. The windshield wipers cannot keep up and you cannot see the end of your hood. Other than that or getting wet at 45' out I ride through. Makes for fun stories.

I never really thought about the lightning aspect till I came to these forums. I guess I always assumed it was the same thing as a car. Now whether or not people on bikes do get hit, I at least think about it and give pause. However, rain really doesn't give me pause too much. Just ride slower and even more alert if possible.
When I was in Bosnia, a severe T-storm rolled up fast while I was the only one in our tent. We had the sides rolled up so I went out to put them down, while outside puddles were already forming and I could feel tingling in my feet like I was getting shocked. Whether it was from the lightning or the from one of the many generators we had, I don't know, but it spooked me as I had never felt anything like that before. I got those sides down and back inside pretty quickly. (we had built a wooden floors for the tents)
