As often as I get the chance, I ride to work, 72 miles and an an hour and fifteen minutes each way. Keep the bike and get a good mileage car, you won't be sorry.

 

I also commute daily but mines just under the hour at 50 Mins each way. I agree w/ GeorgeJ and the others . Ditch the truck , Grab a civic or Corrolla and enjoy the ride when you can. On days when I need to drive I use the Wifes Mazda 323 5-Door - God I love his/Hers Trannys!

DON'T EVER SELL. After carpooling for years, I rode all this year an hour each way on LA freeways, and I can't wait to swing a leg over every morning. The carpool lane makes it easy and fast. I save a minimum 30 minutes over when I drive the cage, and there's no stress. Non-riders think the opposite, but I don't have to crowd cages, or hit the brakes like they do. I don't race, just go with the flow, unless they go to slow, then I just go by.
I have a great tail bag that carries all I need.

 

Get a used Crown Victoria police interceptor (P71). You can get 25 mpg on the freeway and there are lots of cheap performance parts. Taking into account mileage, maintenance, depreciation, safety, and performance it's the best deal on the market. Check out CrownVic.net and you will ejnoy a P71.

Commuting on a bike is so much nicer in my opinion than in a car. But if I had to bring a lot of stuff and dress real nice is a different story. I don't know what to tell you...

 

Glad to see I'm not alone, using a Dyna (rather than a bagger) as a daily commuter. On those days when I have to dress well, I pull a set of rain pants over my slacks to keep them clean. I leave shoes at the office and change out of my boots when I arrive.

I commute an hour + each way and I keep shoes at work and carry everything else in a t-bag. All I have to worry about here are all the damn deer.

 

Commuting is such a great way to start the day despite the traffic! I'm fortunate in that I can wear jeans to work and don't have a lot of stuff to carry - just my laptop and some papers. I try to ride the bike to work two or three days a week. But I'm a "fair weather biker", so if it looks like rain, I take the truck. Now I'm learning that if it's less than 45 degrees in the morning I'm gonna get chilled before I finish my hour long commute.
