Default Gas experiment

Just for ***** and giggles Ive been trying different grades of gas in my WG normally I run premium. So then I run a tank of mid grade and actually to my surprise the bike ran damn good. Then a tank of regular not to good lack in response and just didn't feel right.Going to try another tank of mid grade and see what happens.

I've never tried a tank of mid grade but regular seems to accentuate my top end ticking so I avoid regular. My bike runs much better on premium. . . .

Lower grade fuels are apt to cause pinging and harm your motor.

You're already getting a hose-full of whatever grade the last person used, if it's a fuel pump with a single hose and two or three selections. For that matter, you're getting it from wherever that fueling system splits the suction for the different fuels.

What's the point?

You save a whole 27 cents per gallon (average difference between Premium and Regular), which works out to $1.38 for a tank of gas. Even less if you compare Premium and Mid-Grade.

Is it worth it?

If you check your manual it may recommend midgrade. Mine does and bike runs fine on it. As long as it does not ping the lowest grade is best. There is no difference in the amount of btu in the three grades of gas. Midgrade and premium just have an additive to make the burn slower under more pressure from a higher compression engine. Years ago they use to advertise premium as having more cleaning ability. The big boys accused the oil companies of false advertising and they cut the crap out.

i prefer 91-93 but very often, even today I ran 87 octane out of a mfa tank none the less. the problem is I ride some very rural areas and sometimes am just lucky to find a station. I used to carry some octane boost but I started riding with some cats that flat throwdown the miles on bigbore baggers. They buy the highest octane available but again good portion of the time its 87. fact is I have NEVER noticed a differnce in any of the differnt fuel. If your bike is tuned good run whatever you want.
