Question Oil lever = for hot AND cold... normal??

I changed my oil recently and upon checking the level, I have noticed that it is 2.5 X's below the full mark at normal operating temp and the same when cold. I thought it should read full for normal operating temp and about half way to full for cold. I'm running Syn3, does that make a difference?

Both of mine about 1/2 inch below full when cold and to the full line when hot.

How many miles are you riding when you say your bike is hot? I have to ride about 20 miles before Im completely warmed up.

I've checked it at 5 miles and I've checked it at 15 miles, both a mix of highway and in-town riding.

IMHO you need to ride farther then that to get the bike hot. And you are in Maine. I live in a hot climate and it takes longer then you are riding.

Okay, thanks. I'll try that. It hasn't been too warm here so far this spring either. We finally hit 70° for the first time this season this week.

What will get the engine temp up more quickly; slow, in-town riding or faster highway riding?

The only thing that makes a difference is how much oil you add to the motor, after draining and replacing the plug. If you don't "fill" it, the dipstick will not read full. Don't make it more complicated than it is.
