Default Changing from standard to Synthetic oil

Hey gang, got a question about changing from standard oil to synthetic. I realize its a one way switch you can go to it but not back which is fine. My question is when you change the oil, before putting in the synthetic how important is it to make sure you get every drop of the standard out. I will be changing the filter too, so do you need to squeeze every last drop out ? My concern is will it cause problems if the little bit of standard oil left in the lines etc. effect the Synthetic oil? Or am I making too big of a deal about this?

Thanks for any input.

Lots of info on the oil issue, when I changed mine I didn't get every drop out and I put in the synth3. When you add the oil add 2.5 quarts then check the level after you run it for a little while.
If you add the 3 quarts you'll over fill it. It's called a "wet" oil change meaning there is 1/2 quart of oil still in the motor after you drain it. If you don't have a manual get one.
You can buy a device which will suck out all the oil but I never had any kind of problem over the 12 years of owning Harleys.

Cool! I didnt think it was going to be a hudge issue, but before I did it I thought I'd see what your experiences were. This is my first Harley and just wanna do it right. Thanks for the reply.

the only way to get all the oil out would be to disassemble theh engine. Then you would still have the assembly lube [8D]

You can switch from dino to synth or synth to dino. Not being able to go back to dino is an old wives tale. You do not have to worry about getting every drop out when you switch either way. They are compatible with each other.

Most all the synthetics will mix with dino oil with no problem. Some say not to mix the synthetics but I have filled with Mobil 1 after running syn3 with no ill effects. You do not need to flush the engine.

Made the mistake of putting 3 full qts in when I did my first oil change to Mobil 1.No big deal just had to drain a little out after I drove it around the block.
