Default Bike is lagging in 6th gear

I have a 09 fatbob that just got new bars and risers which the cables exchanged/replaced. Now that I am out riding, the bike lags when switching into 6th gear. I'm talking 65-80mph, I have tried switching into 6th at different speeds and it does it everytime. Switch into 6th, grab full throttle and the bike acts like it doesn't want to move for a few seconds, decreases speed and then it wakes up and gets back to normal (accelerating). No other problems shifting, idling or anything. Anyone got any answers?

Did you adjust the throttle body when you put the new throttle and idle cables on? I can't tell you what the problem is, but that is where I would start. If it is not pulling, but the engine is reving, I would adjust the clutchpack and clutch cable. Good luck!

Default Cable Adjustment

+2..I would adjust the throttle and clutch cables. My bike, 06, is doing 2800rpm at 70mph...Your is geared even higher so just take that into account. My throttle isn't very responsive until 3000rpm.

It has been mentioned on here numerous times. 07 and later bikes, 6th gear is pretty much useless below 70 mph and even then it's only for cruising. You'll still be sluggish at 80 in 6th truth be told. They've got these bikes geared so tall it's a nightmare.

From what everyone who has done the 30 tooth tranny pulley conversion says, it's a night and day difference. I pretty much just don't use 6th except for cruising at 75+ on the highway. Certainly never shift into it and just roll full throttle unless I'm already passing through 80 in 5th.

On six speed transmissions the fifth gear is direct drive, just like it is in a five speed. Sixth gear is indirect and causes a power loss of 5 to 7 percent as demonstrated on chassis dynos. Combine that with the tall gearing and the power loss will be felt when upshifting into 6th.

What you guys say is true about lugging but I have never felt a loss of power whilst shifting into 6th at any speed. It might not have a lot of go at low speed but it doesn't feel like the OP described.

When AutoTuning my bike I have been trying to hit all the VE tables cells and so done stuff like knocking it up to 6th at 30mph and accelerating away and the bike manages this fine with no dips, just a steady acceleration until reasonable revs are reached then it takes off.

Plus the OP said this only started when he switched bars.

It is an odd fault though. About the only thing that I can think of is an electrical problem to do with the 6th gear indicator light. Not sure how that would be related to the bars swap though.

I also am having problems on my 07 after switching bars and cables. However I think mine has to doing with the clutch cable. These are a PITA to get dialed in. Everytime I think I have it, I don't. Thought it was good then I went to work this morning and when ever I got on it in 6th gear the indicator light would go off. If I pulled the clutch it would do the same thing. There is no middle ground here on this clutch, its either good or not.

I never use 6th at any speed lower than 80+
