I drained the oil, changed out the filter and added 2.5 quarts of oil. So I am good to go?

Thanks for the info guys!
NO and wrong kind of peace of mind. 2.5 quarts is for a dry motor. That's what the engine can hold if all the oil is out of the engine. There is still a pint or so of oil in the lifters and oil runs. If you put 2.5 quarts of oil in the bike you will be over serviced and expect some blowby oil either at the air cleaner or where ever oil can vent out. This can also be hard on seals and gaskets. If your oil level was correct at the time of the oil change, compare what you drained to how much you want to put in.

Service manual states 2.5 quarts for a wet motor (oil and filter change)
3.0 quarts for a dry motor (motor has been broken down and cleaned)

The manual states lots of things. 2 quarts including an oil change is full. + or - to get to the line. I don't know if it matters because I change mine hot.

Let me correct it. I never get 2.5 quarts in mine when wet. I did that the first time and it was over filled. If you don't trust the dip stick because of mods, compare what you drained to what you added. You might have to start a new post to get a good answer on what is full with your mods. Good luck with it.

I understand the oil level will differ a little from bike to bike. I am leaving first thing in the morning for Thunder Beach I don't really have time to start a new thread and + or - the oil level. That is why I followed the service manuals instructions of adding 2.5 to a wet motor. My main concern is having sufficient oil in the motor to prevent damage. I know i am probably putting too much thought into this. I have read of plenty of guys puttiing the 2.5 and being done with it.

Thanks for the info guy.

Just wondering what did it read on the stick after changing the oil and warming it up?
