Default Help again for the girl!!

As some of you know - since you had to help me last time I needed help - I recently purchased and put on all by myself V&H hi output propipe exhaust for my 2010 bob. I just today got my heat shields in the mail - no they didn't come with the exhaust - and couldn't wait to see how well they fit. Well, no one told me that the exhaust fits on this bike but if I try and put shields on, it wont work with mid controls. I do not want forwards and even if I did, not in the budget. Now I actually posted an ad in the classified here to get rid of these pipes and get a different exhaust but I was hoping you guys may know how I might be able to make this work.
I did get a pm from one very nice guy who saw my ad and gave me a piece of advice about an extra washer or two under the front mid control mount. Don't know if I will be able to do this but I will try it tomorrow - if the rain ever stops of course.
Does anyone have any ideas so that I can keep this exhaust? I really do love it!!
Sorry about the bad pic but I knew you'd want at least one!!

Have you considered taking a dremel tool to the shields and carving them to go around the controls? I would do that before I started shimming things, but then I enjoy making things fit where they were not meant to be...
How much clearance is needed to make them work?

I'd have to agree with 8541. Just dremel the shield in the area it conflicts with the peg. As for the brake pedal, you may need to upgrade or have yours heated and bent out a bit.

+1 That's exactly what I'd do. Draw some smooth lines and carve the shield with a dremel to open up the clearance for the peg and brake. Clean up and smooth the new edge with a rat tail file.

Black exhaust tape from Vance & Hines is a possible solution(for the headers)... just thinkin' out loud...

Yep....My first thought was to cut a piece out of the heat shield . Mark it with a grease pencil or something similar and cut it out .

If the heatshields are chrome and Locked does dremel them to fit, doesn't that expose raw metal to rust and corrosion? How do you remedy that, short of rechroming/powdercoating/painting them yourself?

Agree w/most - shields are metal & can be cut to fit...pipes look great!

Brush on some clear paint or clear fingernail polish...a black or silver paint marker would be even better. All you have to do is run it along the cut edge.

My guess is that it's not going to be very visible anyway.

No need for a file just use a polishing tip in the dremel, that will get the edge smoother and be easier than a file. If you don't already have a dremel, buy the kit it comes with several tips.
