Default Wide tire kit

In looking at options for a different rear tire I noticed that the Harley site somewhat details a wide tire kit priced along with a screaming eagle, dunlop, tire. The site also mentions another part; varying as to whether your dyna has a fixed or removable sissybar. Does anyone know what this kit contains and what the additional part needed is? Also, is any of that worth the money?

If you are talking about the 180 kit, it just comes with a small bracket (piece of metal) to hold the blinker wires out of the way. It screws into the bottom side. of the top screw that holds the license plate. It could be made very easily.Just have to see one first...........................................

I understand you don't really need the kit, but gotta make sure the wires are outa the way.

I am waiting until my front tire wears out to go to a larger size. Then I will go with Meztler radials front/rear.

Recommend doing a search on this topic..... Lots of info and opinions on tires/sizes, etc.

Buy just the tire. Make sure your bolts that hold the fender on are cut off so they don't hit the tire before you put the tire on.

Just what I did. I love that tire.

I put a 170/60 Avon radial on mine, no other hardware changes.

Others have put 180's on their bikes, with no problems (just read all of the other threads). Many tire manufacturers do recommend a minimum rim thickness of 5" with 180's. My 06 dyna is 4.5 ". Before doing anything I checked the clearance between the belt and the outer edge of the rear tire and there was just over 1 cm. 1 cm is the amount the increase in tire width should increase on each side so it must be close with a 180. I had wondered if the wide tyre kit came with a spacer to address that ? The kit tire is not a radial, it's a cross- ply I believe.

Also, if you go with a 180/55 it does change the diameter of the wheel slighlty by reducing it (The kit comes with a 180/60). Theoretically this should lower the effective gearing of the bike, and bring the speedo, tripmeter etc. out of calibration.

As I said though plenty of people have put 180s on with no problems though...

Thanks. We are having miserable weather this year. Thought I'd get at least another 1500 miles before snow. Doesn't seem to be happening. The spouse keeps saying wait until spring for the new tire, and that is probably right. I've been looking at the Avon av46 170/60. Again thanks.

If your blinkers are relocated already you don't need the kit.
